#6 Journal Entry 4/17/2020
There were some entries in my journal before this one, but they were mostly incoherent. I think the social isolation and lack of routine made me lose it a little bit. For example one statement said, “Stinky people, doing stinky people things”. Now I don’t know what that means exactly, who are these stinky people, and what things are they doing that happen to be stinky?
Anyway, back to reality…
A month has passed since I left my job in social work. I was there from September 20th 2018 until March 20th 2020, that year and a half flew by. I landed a job at a garden nursery, but earlier this week I decided I would wait to start until seeing how the country is doing with the virus at the end of the month. They started letting employees at the nursery start working again, it is considered an essential business. The few times we have gone out in public, it doesn’t seem like many people are taking the virus seriously.
I would say that about 50% of people I saw had a mask or were keeping their distance. The other half did not seem to care at all. Coincidentally Johnson County, KS has the most Covid-19 cases in the state. Granted this is essentially a part of KC which is the more populated area in the state. Meanwhile Trump is rushing to get the country to open up again, even though experts are saying a vaccine will not be made until 12-18 months from now. I am doubtful people will be willing to wait that long before trying to go back to normal.
